More women and children are arriving in the Netherlands to join their husbands or fathers who have been granted refugee status, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.
Men now account for 40% of new claims, compared with 55% in October 2015, when the number of new arrivals surged. Some 43% of the new arrivals are children, up from 30% in October last year.
In total, 2,085 asylum seekers arrived in the Netherlands in July, down on both July 2014 and 2015, the CBS said.
One third of them came from Syria and 20% from Albania and the former Yugoslavia. They are regarded as economic migrants and will be returned to their home country after a couple of months.
