PSV open football season by winning Johan Cruijff plate
The Dutch football season officially kicked off on Sunday when PSV beat Feyenoord 1-0 to win the Johan Cruijff Plate.
The Johan Cruijff Plate opens the new football season and is a duel between last season’s football association cup winners and the league champions. PSV, who won the Eredivisie last season, have now taken the award 11 times.
Davy Pröpper scored the only goal of the game in the 38th minute.
PSV start of their new season campaign on Saturday with an away game against FC Utrecht. Feyenoord meet Groningen away on Sunday.
Amsterdam club Ajax, which was second to PSV in the Eredivisie competition last season, meet Sparta of Rotterdam on Sunday.
