Man arrested for murder 26 years ago after cold case investigation
Amsterdam police have arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with a murder committed in The Hague 26 years ago.
The arrest was made following a dna match. The murder of Miriam Sharon, an Israeli national and mother of two young children, is the oldest reopened Dutch cold case to have resulted in an arrest.
Police said they used new techniques to examine evidence found at the scene which resulted in Monday’s arrest. No-one was picked up at the time of the murder.
Police have said nothing more about the man or where he comes from but have said they are in the dark about the motive for the killing. According to the Telegraaf, Sharon had been stabbed to death.
The suspect will appear in court on August 25.
The victim, who was 36 when she died, came to the Netherlands after becoming involved with a Dutch man but was divorced at the time of her death, the Telegraaf said.
