Handful of arrests during EuroPride in Amsterdam
Eight people have been arrested during EuroPride for assaulting and verbally abusing LGBT participants, Amsterdam police have told AT5.
A total of 11 incidents involving abuse relating to the victim’s sexuality were logged during the opening and closing weekends of the two-week event.
A police spokesman said none of the episodes involved serious violence: ‘These people were verbally abused in the street, there was a bit of pushing and shoving and the occasional punch thrown.’
Police also said they had received 200 reports of pickpocketing and arrested 21 street thieves so far. Five of them were caught when they snatched mobile phones equipped with police track and trace devices.
