Car thief who killed boy, 4, in collision had been let out of jail
A car thief who caused a head-on collision on Friday, killing a four-year-old boy and injuring the rest of his family, stole the car from a psychiatrist sent to evaluate him, the Telegraaf says on Monday.
The 38-year-old man had just been released from jail by a judge after spending six months on remand accused of threatening behaviour and assault, the paper says. The probation service had objected to his release and said his psychiatric problems were becoming worse.
On Friday, the man stole the car from a court-ordered psychiatrist who had been sent to assess him. He drove off and slammed into another car carrying the family from Gouda.
The man’s mother told reporters her son should never have been released.
