There was no mass execution or detention of Dutch jihadis in Syria by members of IS as reported earlier this year, the Telegraaf says on Friday.

What the paper calls ‘reliable’ security service sources’ say there is ‘no evidence whatsoever’ that rebellious Dutch jihadis had been killed, as claimed by the local action group ‘Raqqa is being slaughtered silently’.

Dutch fighters have also dismissed the claims as nonsense, the paper says.

Family members in the Netherlands have heard nothing about the killings, but if men had been killed, word would have reached their wives and then their Dutch relatives, the paper says.

The activist group said in March eight Dutch jihadis had been executed after 60 were taken prisoner following a dispute with IS forces in the city of Raqqa.
