PSV and Ajax make no mistake, Feyenoord capitulation continues, while 18 year old Dennis van der Heijden announces his Eredivisie arrival with stunning debut, writes Neil Adderley.
Cambuur Leeuwarden 0 v 2 FC Utrecht: Defeat drops Frisians to foot of table
Cambuur fell to the bottom of the Eredivisie for the first time this season as goals from Mark van der Maarel and Sebastian Haller gave Utrecht all the points.
Despite the midweek resignation of manager Henk de Jong, Cambuur started brightly but failed to capitalise when Robbin Ruiter saved from a Kevin van Veen free kick.
Utrecht began to dominate in the second half, and the deadlock was finally broken in the 79th minute as captain Van der Maarel headed home from close range.
And when top scorer Haller scored in an almost identical manner in the closing stages, there was no way back for the rock bottom hosts.
Heracles Almelo 3 v 6 AZ Alkmaar: In form AZ hit Heracles for six
AZ made it six wins on the spin as John van Den Brom’s in form team overran Heracles in Almelo.
Leading scorer Vincent Janssen opened the scoring with just 3 minutes on the clock. Markus Henriksen converted from the spot on 32 minutes, before Joris van Overeem made it three before the break.
Heracles hit back with a stunning Thomas Bruns strike, however AZ regained a three goal advantage as Alireza Jahanbakhsh fired home from the edge of the box.
The home side refused to lie down, as firstly Mark Jan Fledderus and then Wout Weghorst clawed Heracles back to within a goal of the visitors.
However, a cruel own goal from Bruns and a Ben Rienstra header, finally sealed all the points for free flowing AZ.
Willem II 0 v 0 De Graafschap: Super Boeren finally off the bottom
De Graafschapsupporters will remember this dour scoreless draw as the match that finally moved their team off the bottom of the Eredivisie table.
Willem II pinned back De Graafschap for long periods but Lucas Andersen, Guus Hupperts and Erik Falkenburg all failed to beat the excellent Hidde Jurjus in the De Graafschap goal.
And the visitors held on to claim the point that sees them leapfrog Cambuur at the foot of the table.
Roda JC 0 v 1 Twente: Recovery continues for Twente
Twente made it nine points from three games with a solitary Chinedu Ede goal.
Both sides were evenly matched throughout and Roda will feel hard done by not to have claimed a point.
A game short of clear chances was won with one piece of quality by Jeroen van der Lely. The youngster’s defence splitting pass allowing Ede the time to control, before finding the bottom corner.
Vitesse Arnhem 3 v 0 Heerenveen: Vitesse cruise past disappointing Frisians
A return for attacking midfielder Milot Rashica proved the catalyst for a comfortable win in Arnhem.
The diminutive Albanian played in Denys Oliynyk to open the scoring, before Valeri Qazaishvili doubled the lead just before the break.
And when Rashica was tumbled in the box on 52 minutes, Qazaishvili bagged his second and a Vitesse third.
Despite not adding to the total the home side cruised to an easy victory, with the return of the outstanding Rashica a real boost in the fight for European football.
Groningen 1 v 2 Ajax: Amsterdammers hold on in closely fought battle
A close range Anwar El Ghazi strike and a Lasse Schone penalty proved enough for Ajax in a tight affair at the Euroborg.
Groningen were the better team in the first half, but Oussama Idrissi, Jesper Drost and Alexander Sorloth all failed to test Jasper Cillessen from promising positions.
Ajax finally found a foothold in the game in the second period.
And the scoring was opened when a long diagonal ball from Mike van der Hoorn was headed across goal by Schone for El Ghazi to blast home from under the bar.
Schone then made no mistake from the penalty spot to give Ajax a comfortable two goal advantage on 70 minutes.
However, a rash challenge from Van den Hoorn saw the defender collect a second yellow card, in turn handing the initiative back to Groningen.
The Ajax rearguard action was finally breached deep into injury time, as Danny Hoesen fired a 20 yard free kick past Cillessen. But Frank de Boer’s championship chasing team held on to claim all the spoils.
Excelsior 2 v 4 ADO Den Haag: Dream debut for teenager Van der Heijden
Eighteen year old ADO striker Dennis van der Heijden came of the bench to hit a stunning double on his first team debut.
With less than 15 minutes left on the clock, and ADO trailing to two Tom van Weert goals, the teenager introduced himself to Dutch football with a stunning 78th minute volley to bring the sides level.
The young debutant then fired ADO into the lead on 86 minutes, before Mike Havenaar nodded home to seal all the points against a shell shocked Excelsior.
PEC Zwolle 3 v 1 Feyenoord: Disastrous slump continues for Feyenoord
Feyenoord suffered an incredible seven defeats in a row at a snowy IJsseldelta Stadion.
PEC striker Lars Veldwijk gave the hosts a 15 minute lead, latching onto a Wout Brama pass before beating Kenneth Vermeer.
And Feyenoord had the keeper to thank for keeping them in the game. Vermeer stopping Veldwijk, Thomas Lam, Wouter Marinus and Queensy Menig in quick succession.
However, the visitors grabbed an undeserved equaliser just before the break as defender Sven van Beek fired home from a Jens Toornstra corner.
PEC regained the advantage on 50 minutes when Veldwijk struck again from a tight angle.
And the Rotterdammers misery was complete in injury time as the big striker unselfishly set up Kingsley Ehizibue to condemn Feyenoord to a seventh straight league defeat.
NEC Nijmegen 0 v 3 PSV Eindhoven:Champions make no mistake in Nijmegen
PSV retained top position with an easy win in Nijmegen.
Captain, and Eredivisie top scorer Luuk de Jong, headed home a Jetro Willem cross to give PSV a deserved first half lead.
After Jürgen Locadia and Luciano Narsingh passed up opportunities to build on the lead, it was eventually Locadia who doubled the advantage on 67 minutes.
NEC, who have made an excellent return to the Dutch top flight, failed throughout to trouble the PSV defence.
And the champions sealed a routine victory as Chelsea loanee Marco van Ginkel finished smartly from a Locadia cross.
