Supermarket group Jumbo cuts 20% of HQ jobs

jumbo supermarket trolleySupermarket group Jumbo is reducing its head office workforce by around 20% now the integration of the C1000 supermarket chain has been completed.

In total, 190 out of 925 full-time jobs will go, the company said, and compulsory redundancies have not been ruled out.

Retail expert Paul Moers told BNR radio the move is a sensible one, because the company’s organisational side is top heavy.

Jumbo is based on a ‘low price every day’ format and a large headquarters does not fit into this, he said. Jumbo bought 450 C1000 supermarkets from British investment group CVC at the end of 2011.
