Rabobank pulls out of top level cycling, equestrianism sponsorship
Rabobank is to stop sponsoring top level cycling and equestrian events at the end of next year and will focus instead on community-based sports.
The bank, which said earlier this week it is cutting 9,000 jobs, is currently in talks with the Dutch hockey association KNHB and sports umbrella group NOC*NSF about the future of those sponsorship deals.
Rabobank has sponsored cycling since 1996 but stopped sponsoring the men’s professional team in 2012 because of the doping scandal. It has continued to support women’s cycling, including world champion Marianne Vos.
The bank has actively sponsored equestrianism since 2002 and has been particularly successful in its work with young talents, a spokesman for the KNHS said in a statement.
