PVV leader Geert Wilders is voted politician of the year
PVV leader Geert Wilders has been voted politician of the year for the third time by viewers of television current affairs show EenVandaag.
Wilders, who also took the titles in 2013 and 2010, won with 25% of the vote. In total, 37,000 people took part in the online election.
Second on the list was new GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver with 14%, followed by Labour’s finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem on 9%.
Wilders was praised for being the only politician to have an eye on the concerns many Dutch people have about asylum seekers, the show said.
Support for Wilders’ PVV is currently running at just above 25% in recent opinion polls.
