Second police officer arrested for leaking information to criminals
A 27-year-old officer with the Dutch military police has been arrested on suspicion of passing on confidential information to criminals, the public prosecution department has confirmed.
The man was arrested last month and was remanded in custody for two months earlier this week.
The man is said to be a member of the force’s team at Schiphol Airport and had access to highly confidential information about criminal investigations focused on drugs smuggling, the Parool reports.
Earlier this week, a 28-year-old detective with the national police force was arrested on the same charges but the two cases are unrelated, the public prosecution department said.
Mark M had been a police officer for nine years when he was picked up on charges relating to leaking information to criminal gangs.
According to RTL news, police found €235,000 in cash when they searched his home in Weert. ‘He led a life of luxury, went on holiday to Curaçao and the Dominican Republic and wore expensive watches,’ one source told the broadcaster.
