El Ghazi gets first international cap; Oranje unlikely to qualify
Dutch national football team coach Danny Blind on Friday announced his team for the two remaining group matches for qualification for Euro 2016.
Blind has called up Anwar El Ghazi, top scorer in the premier division for Ajax, to replace his injured star player Arjen Robben.
PSV player Luciano Narsingh, who replaced Robben for the previous two matches, is dropped, as is his fellow player Luuk de Jong, the Feyenoord players Rick Karsdorp and Kenneth Vermeer and the Ajax player Joël Veltman.
Narsingh said he understood the coach’s decision. ‘I played very badly in the last two internationals,’ he told the NRC.
Oranje lost the first two qualifiers against Iceland and Turkey and are currently bottom of group A.
Only if Turkey drops at least three points in the remaining matches will Oranje have a chance to qualify. However, it will need to win away against Kazachstan on October 10 and at home against Czech Republic on October 13.
