Amsterdam clubbers least likely to have bike lights
Six in 10 clubbers don’t have proper bike lights when they go out at night, research for cycling organisations and the transport ministry has found.
The researchers studied cyclists between 22.00 and 03.00 at 10 night life centres around the country. In total 6,000 bikes were checked and 59% were without proper lights, news agency ANP reports.
Amsterdam had the worst record: just 18% of night-clubbing cyclists had both a front and back light. In Utrecht the figure was 22% and in Groningen, 27%.
The research was published ahead of the launch of a public awareness campaign to encourage more people to make sure their bike lights are working ahead of the winter.
