40,000 official homes created in offices, shops and care homes
The Dutch housing stock has been boosted by 40,000 homes since 2012 through the conversion of offices, schools and shops, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.
Most of the new homes have been created in small projects – four in 10 developments involve fewer than 10 accommodation units, the CBS said. One in five projects is in Noord-Holland province.
Not all the projects involve building work, the CBS said. For example, most of the 8,600 new housing units created in care homes involve the introduction of tenancy agreements for residents.
