Tall ships arrive in Amsterdam at opening of SAIL
The tall ships which are the highlight of the maritime event SAIL arrived in the Amsterdam IJ port on Wednesday afternoon.
They were welcomed by canon shot fired from the quay.
As the shots died away, flags were hoisted and the national anthem of the ship’s home country was played.
The parade of 600 ships and boats, including 50 tall ships, was 12 kilometres long and attracted around 40,000 visitors.
SAIL continues until Sunday when the ships will leave Amsterdam.
