AZ a step closer to the Europa League, Vitesse is out
Alkmaar football club AZ is through to the play-offs of the Europa League after beating Turkish side Basakehir 1-2 in the second leg of their tie. AZ won the first leg at home 2-0.
AZ will now join Ajax in the draw for the play-offs which will take place on Friday. Groningen automatically qualified for the Europa League group stage.
Southampton was too strong for Arnhem club Vitesse in their second leg, winning 2-0 after a 3-0 victory in their first meeting a week ago.
PSV, which won the Eredivisie last season, will take part in the Champions League. Ajax failed to qualify earlier this week.
