A 22-year-old man from Delft has been jailed for four years by a court in Rotterdam for planning to use the proceeds of an armed robbery to support jihadis in Syria.

Mohammed A was picked up on his way to an armed robbery in Scheveningen and was found to have three guns in his car. Police were tipped off about the guns by an informant.

The court ruled A was guilty of a ‘serious terrorist offence’ because he was planning to support violent jihad with the robbery proceeds. ‘Jihadi groups in Syria are guilty of serious human rights abuses,’ the court said.

A is also said to have spent time fighting in Syria in 2013.

Tapped telephone conversations also involved A talking about an attack on anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders but there is no concrete evidence of any plan and no charges were brought, RTL news reports.
