The Netherlands may get third Brussels surcharge: finance minister
The Netherlands may get a third surcharge from Brussels because the economy performed better than expected for the past two years, the Telegraaf says on Wednesday.
Finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem has told MPs the Netherlands may have to pay another €200m to Brussels because of revised growth figures for 2013 and 2014.
Last autumn the Dutch state paid €642m in extra fees because restated economic figures show the economy performed better than earlier calculations showed.
This spring, restated accounts for 2011 and 2013 led to a further €200m surcharge.
The Telegraaf says it had asked multiple times for more information from the ministry about the surcharges and the situation in other EU countries but had been rebuffed.
The paper says it is in the process of going to the European court to get access.
