State to get €40m from underworld property tycoon’s estate
The public prosecution department has reached a settlement with the family of murdered property tycoon Willem Endstra over potential criminal cash in his estate.
Endstra was shot dead 11 years ago and after his death it emerged that he had close contacts with the underworld and was a noted money launderer.
His family have now agreed to hand over property to the value of €40m to settle the case in what the the public prosecution department said is an ‘appropriate settlement’.
The amount is equivalent to half the value of his estate, the department said in a statement.
Endstra was shot dead near his office on Amsterdam’s Apollolaan on May 17, 2004. There have been several arrests in connection with his murder but no convictions.
