More passengers use Schiphol in 2015 first quarter
The number of passengers using Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport rose 3.5% in the first three months of this year, taking the total to 11.5 million.
Over 90% of the 12.7 million people who came to the Netherlands by plane in the first quarter travelled via Schiphol, the national statistics office CBS said.
The strongest growth was booked by Groningen airport, where passenger numbers doubled to 28,000. The total for Eindhoven airport was up 20% at 816,000.
By contrast, the number of passengers using Maastricht airport fell for the fifth quarter in a row. Between January and March, 20,000 people used the southern airport, compared with 36,000 a year ago.
There was also a 7% downturn in passenger numbers at Rotterdam airport.
