The Dutch football association KNVB says there is little point in talking to other European football bodies about the problems at Fifa following claims that France, Spain, Finland and some eastern European countries supported Sepp Blatter for a fifth term.

Uefa president Michel Platini had called an emergency session of the Uefa in Berlin in the sidelines of the Champions League final to discuss the situation following Blatter’s election for a fifth term at the head of Fifa.

‘There is not really any point,’ KNVB director Bert van Oostveen is quoted as saying. ‘I will get in touch with Uefa to talk about the plans but will add that as far as we are concerned, given the divisions in European football, it would not exactly be a useful exercise.’

The KNVB backed Jordanian prince Ali Bin Al Hussein in the vote for the chairmanship and most European football associations were expected to follow suit. The KNVB’s Michael van Praag pulled out of the race to give the prince a clear run.

Van Praag had been planning to talk to other Uefa members in Berlin about a new strategy to deal with Blatter but has now changed his mind because ‘certain countries cannot keep agreements’, broadcaster Nos reports.

One source told the Daily Mail as many as 18 European nations may have voted for Blatter.
