House prices rise 2.6% in May, more homes change hands
House prices rose 2.6% in May compared with a year ago and have now been going up for more than a year, the national statistics bureau CBS said on Monday.
House prices reached a low in June 2013 and have risen an average of 4.6% since then. However, house prices are still down almost 18% on their August 2008 all-time high.
The number of properties changing hands also continues to rise, the figures show. In May, 12,827 homes were sold, up 7% on a year ago. Over the first five months of the year, sales were up 16% on 2014.
There are, however, sharp regional differences. House prices rose 4.1% in Noord-Holland and Utrecht provinces in the first three months of this year, but just 0.2% in Zeeland.
