Hema can continue to offer notary services, court rules
High street chain Hema can continue to offer notarial services, the legal profession’s highest disciplinary board said on Tuesday.
The appeal hearing took place after a complaint by the notary association KNB against a notary who was taking part in the Hema service.
The KNB said the notary did not have sufficient control, say and supervision in his work and was therefore breaking his duty of care.
The complaint had already been dismissed by a lower court, but the KNB lodged an appeal. The KNB is also critical of the low price of the Hema service and the freedom clients have to change contracts.
However, the disciplinary board ruled that the Hema is not breaking any laws or rules.
As well as notarial services such as will-making, Hema also offers car and travel insurance.
