Dutch women win first World Cup football match
The Dutch women’s football team won their first World Cup Group A match against New Zealand 1-0 in Edmonton, Canada on Saturday.
Lieke Martens scored the first half goal in what the Fifa website described as a ‘disjointed match which The Netherlands deserved to win’.
The Oranje Lionesses are taking part in their first ever women’s World Cup.
However, it is unclear if keeper Loes Geurts will be available for the next Dutch team’s match against China after she picked up an ankle injury during the game. The Netherlands-China tie is scheduled for Friday.
