Amsterdam to get two more city centre luxury hotels
Despite fears that Amsterdam is becoming overloaded with tourists, two more luxury hotels are in the pipeline, both of which are located close to the city centre.
The former law courts on the Prinsengracht have been sold to Den Bosch developer M7 for €61.3m which plans to turn it into a five-star hotel for an unnamed hotel group.
In addition, the former Westerpark council offices are to be turned into a four-star hotel, despite the protests of companies currently located in the building, the Parool says on Tuesday.
The paper says the building, in the middle of the Westerpark itself, has been sold to developer Meyer Bergman for €5.9m.
Amsterdam has been stimulating hotel construction for the past 10 years and nine city centre listed buildings have been turned into luxury accommodation or are in the process of being developed.
For example, the former Emma children’s hospital is being turned into a Hyatt Regency hotel and the city centre Bungehuis, which is part of the University of Amsterdam’s property empire, is to become a private members hotel and club for the Soho group.
