2014 Dutch strawberry harvest reaches record 54 million kilos
Last year’s Dutch strawberry harvest reached a record 54 million kilos, a rise of three million kilos on 2013, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.
Most Dutch strawberries are grown in greenhouses and plastic tunnels and 60% are exported, the CBS said. Belgium is the main Dutch strawberry importer, followed by Norway, Germany and Britain.
The rise in production means strawberries have become the fourth biggest Dutch greenhouse product, behind tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers.
