Van Gogh painting raises almost €60m at auction
A painting dating from the period Vincent van Gogh worked with Paul Gauguin has been sold at auction in New York for $66.3m, or almost €60m.
L’Allée des Alyscamps was painted in Arles in 1888 during what Sotheby’s experts said is ‘the most fertile period’ in Van Gogh’s career.
The painting was sold to a private Asian collector. Van Gogh made two versions of this work. The other was sold for over €10.5m in 2003.
