Holiday group TUI scraps two Dutch brands: Arke and Holland International
German travel organisation TUI is scrapping two Dutch brands with roots dating back to the origins of mass tourism.
Arke and Holland International are to be phased out as names as are Thomson in Britain and Jetair in Belgium as part of a cost cutting process. TUI, the biggest tour operator in the world, is reducing its branding in an effort to stem its mounting losses.
Arke was launched in 1934 and was Dutch market leader at the height of the package holiday boom. Holland International was number two. In the 1980s, both companies took some 400,000 Dutch people on holiday every year.
