Amsterdam metro gets the Netherlands’ longest escalator
The longest escalator in the Netherlands is being constructed in Amsterdam, where it will form part of the city’s new Noord-Zuid metro route, RTL news reports on Tuesday.
The escalator is 20 metres high and 47 metres long and will take 1 minute 20 seconds to travel up or down, RTL says. The escalator is being built at the Vijzelstraat metro station.
The current record is held by the 43-metre long escalator under the Maas in Rotterdam.
The new metro route will have a total of 92 escalators when it is completed in 2017, RTL says.
