AkzoNobel sees profit rise 25% in first quarter
Paint and chemicals company AkzoNobel on Tuesday announced profit of €160m in the first quarter of 2015, a 25% increase on the year earlier period.
Turnover rose 6% to €3.6bn over the first quarter, but sales volume fell 2%.
In a statement, CEO Maëlys Castella says the increase is the first fruits of cost savings and an efficiency drive.
However, the favourable rate of the euro also played a part, the Financieele Dagblad reports. AkzoNobel made more money when turnover from non-EU countries was converted into euros.
