Protesting Amsterdam students won’t be evicted yet
Amsterdam University officials said on Monday they have no immediate plans to call on the police to evict protesting students from the Maagdenhuis administration centre.
‘Fruitful discussions are taking place and inspiring meetings are being organised,’ spokesman Yasha Lange told the Parool newspaper.
A group of students moved into the building on Wednesday morning following their eviction from another university property by riot police. They are protesting at university policy and say students should be given a greater say. They are also opposed to the sale of university property.
The students have called for a national day of action on Wednesday. They hope students all over the country will demonstrate for a more open and democratic university structure.
