Relatives of a young woman who is said to have committed suicide by lying in front of a train want one of the police officers who investigated her death to be prosecuted.

The family of 25-year-old Talitha say the officer lied about a ‘suicide note’ which he claimed gave details of how she planned to get to the railway.

The family’s lawyer Sébas Diekstra says the officer should be prosecuted for making a statement in which he claimed the note, found in her handbag, detailed how to walk from Heerhugowaard station to the place where her body was found.

The note, which was lost for a time, only contained train times. The officer then claimed the information was in another note but officers who searched her bag deny there was a second paper.

The public prosecution department in January apologised to the family for concluding ‘too quickly’ that Talitha killed herself in 2013.

Last week a forensic pathologist said he considered suicide to be extremely unlikely. The family is demanding a new investigation.
