More Dutch spend Christmas in the Netherlands
The number of Dutch spending the Christmas holiday in the Netherlands has risen slightly, to 950,000 people, 50,000 more than in 2013, according to the Dutch tourist board NBTC.
Around half of these holidays will be at a holiday park, with those in or near woods the most popular, the NBTC says. One-quarter of people will stay in a hotel.
The number of Dutch going abroad for their Christmas holiday this year has dropped by 50,000 to 850,000. Germany is the most popular destination with a quarter of holidaymakers heading there, followed by Austria, Belgium and France.
In all, 1.8 million people will take a Christmas break, the same number as in 2013.
The Christmas school holiday runs from December 20 to January 4.
