Cambodian man jailed for killing Dutch aid worker and daughter

A homeless Cambodian man who killed Dutch aid worker Daphna Beerdsen and her 19-month-old daughter Dana with a screwdriver has been jailed for 13 years by a court in Phnom Penh.

Chea Phin confessed to killing Beerdsen in April, saying he attacked her when she tried to stop him stealing a bike, broadcaster Nos reports.

‘If she had not screamed the way she did, nothing would have happened,’ he told the judge.

Phin said he had drunk half a litre of rice wine when he saw the bike through an open door and went in to steal it.
