Budget airline Ryanair hopes to offer flights from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport by 2015, commercial director Kenny Jacobs said in an interview with the Financieele Dagblad.

The paper says Ryanair wants to shift its focus more towards business travellers and main airports and the Schiphol strategy is part of this. The airline currently flies from Eindhoven, Maastricht and Groningen.

‘We are in talks with Schiphol,’ Jacobs told the FD. ‘Last year we requested slots but we could not make any capacity available. We have not asked for slots this year because we don’t have any aircraft but next year that will be different. We hope to be able to start in winter 2015.’

Schiphol director Jos Nijhuis told the FD on Monday he was unaware of the Irish company’s plans.

Competitor Easyjet already flies from Schiphol and plans to station three aircraft permanently at the airport from next year.
