Coalition parties gain in polls in aftermath of Malaysian Airlines crash

Voters appreciate the way in which the coalition government is handling the aftermath of the Malaysia Airlines crash, according to the latest Maurice de Hond opinion poll.

Both coalition parties registered an increase in their number of seats: the right-wing Liberal VVD up four to 27 seats and Labour up three to 14 seats.

It is the first time the VVD has been the biggest party in parliament since March 2013.

All the main opposition parties lost seats in the opinion poll, published on Sunday. The Christian Democrats and the left-wing Liberal D66 are down two at 21 and 23 respectively.

The anti-immigration PVV, Socialists and christian party ChristenUnie are all down one seat at 20, 21 and 6 respectively.
