Turkish brothers win the AD’s herring test for the third year

Fishmongers Abdullah and Umut Tagi have won the AD newspaper’s annual herring test for the third year, the paper says on Friday.

The brothers, who run the Atlantic fish wholesaling business in Scheveningen, won the prize for herring sold in their Rotterdam fishmongers.

At a time of increasing mechanisation and industrialisation, the brothers have made the traditional approach to preparing herring central to their philosphy, the AD says.

Winning the prize three times has helped them win acceptance in a very Dutch sector, Umit Tagi told the paper. ‘We help each other if we can. Our expertise and way of working is now accepted.’
