Locals tell mayor to move convicted paedophile within a week
People living in a neighbourhood of Amersfoort where a convicted paedophile has come to live have called on the mayor to move him out of the city within a week.
Sytze van der V, who has served jail time for abusing several boys, has been living above a daycare centre in Amersfoort since May. Amersfoort city council argues it has no powers to move Van der V. because he has served his sentence.
Locals say they were not informed about his presence and want him moved on. Only people living in very close proximity to Van der V were told he had moved in.
According to broadcaster Nos, locals want the mayor to solve the situation within a week. Otherwise, they say, Van der V’s safety cannot be guaranteed.
‘There are people who want to lynch him if they come across him. I can’t prevent that happening,’ Nos quoted one of the locals as saying.
