Amsterdam officials have delayed giving the green light to a new Holocaust memorial in one of the city’s parks pending further consultation with locals.

The memorial will have the names of 102,000 Dutch victims of the World War II Holocaust who do not have a grave.

Locals are angry about the plan to put the monument in the tiny Wertheim park close to the old Jewish area of the city.

The monument, designed by Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind, will take up one-third of the park’s area. The Wertheim park already has a monument to those who died in the Auschwitz concentration camp.
