Relegation and promotion round up: RKC, Roda and NEC go down
RKC Waalwijk has become the third team to be relegated from the Eredivisie this season, joining NEC of Nijmegen and Roda JC of Kerkrade.
RKC drew 2-2 against Excelsior but that was not enough to make up for their 2-0 defeat in Rotterdam last week.
RKC had played in the premier league for three seasons.
Excelsior will be joined in the Eredivisie by FC Dordrecht, who are returning to top-flight football after 19 years. Willem II of Tilburg, relegated last season, return to the Eredivisie as Jupiler League champions.
Europa League
Meanwhile, FC Groningen managed to clinch a place in the preliminary rounds of next season’s Europa League after beating AZ 3-0.
The two sides drew in the first leg of the play-off. AZ reached the quarter finals of the Europa League this year.
