There is still no sign of the two young Dutch women who disappeared in Panama a week ago, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.

Kris Kremers (21) and Lisanne Froon (22) went missing after making plans to go for a walk near the mountain town of Boquete. They were in Panama to learn Spanish and were staying with a local family.

Despite a week-long search by police and local people along the trails the women could have taken and a $2,500 dollar reward, there has been no sign and no news of them.

Panama president Ricardo Martinelli said his country was doing all it could to find them, the Volkskrant says.

According to Ingrid Lommers, who runs the local Spanish language school, an American who lives in Boquete gave the women directions along a trail. They returned quite quickly and sat by the roadside near a hostel, where the owner spoke to them.

‘Another man, who runs a shop further along the road, saw two young women walk by but we’re not 100% sure it was Kris and Lisanne,’ Lommers told the paper. ‘We don’t know what happened then. No-one saw them get in a bus or taxi.’

The search for the women is continuing.
