ING online banking hit by ‘one breakdown every 2.8 days’

Dutch banks’ online banking systems have been disrupted 62 times in the first two months of this year, compared with just 13 times in the same period of 2013, according to website Allestoringen.nl which monitors online breakdowns.

ING is the worst affected, with customers experiencing problems with online banking services on 21 out of 59 days, the website says. This is one breakdown every 2.8 days.

SNS was least affected, with problems on just five days. ABN Amro, which had no online banking breakdowns in the first two months of 2013, had 16 in January and February this year.

The website collects consumer complaints from a range of sources including social media channels and non-public sources. The banking survey is compiled from 80,000 customer complaints.

Spokesman Tom Sanders says Dutch banks are ‘world champions’ when it comes to online banking breakdowns. But this is because the Netherlands is also leading the way in internet banking, he told Nos television.
