Central bank may back naming and shaming rogue companies
The Dutch central bank may favour changes in the law to allow it to name and shame financial services companies which are under special supervision.
Central bank director Jan Sijbrand said in an interview with website nu.nl publishing the names of rogue companies would lead to greater transparency.
However, ‘there are legal barriers which mean you cannot simply point a finger at a financial institution,’ Sijbrand said.
The interview coincides with the publication of the central bank’s new four-year plan which outlines its vision of financial services regulation for the next four years.
In particular, the document looks at the need to ‘restore confidence, by developing a more sustainable corporate system, a corporate culture of integrity and transparent and clear products’.
