Mini jobs boom in Born

Production of the Mini at the Nedcar plant in Born, Limburg, will bring several hundred jobs, the factory’s director Joost Govaart said on Monday.

The Mini Hatch will be built in Born from this summer. The extra jobs are in logistics, maintainenance, quality control and sales, Govaart is quoted as saying.

In 2012, Mitsubishi pulled out of Nedcar, putting 1,500 jobs at risk.

At the time all 1,500 workers were promised jobs when the Nedcar factory reopened to produce the Mini. During the change-over period, they are being paid from the unemployment benefit fund, topped up by Nedcar’s owner VDL to their former salary levels.
