‘Record drugs seizures in Rotterdam port in 2013’
Customs and other officials appear to have seized a record quantity of drugs in Rotterdam port last year, Trouw reports on Monday.
In October alone, officials confiscated 8,500 kilos of drugs, nu.nl quotes the paper as saying. November and December’s figures have not yet been published. The drugs found over the first 10 months of the year, mainly cocaine, had a street value of €300m, the paper says.
The paper says drugs smugglers are increasingly spreading their risks and seizures rarely amount to more than 1,000 kilos in a single location. They are also increasingly shipping drugs hidden in other cargo, justice ministry official Loes van der Wees told Trouw.
