Extra security for Rotterdam mayor
The house of Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb has been put under tight security after threats were made against him.
Police are taking the threat, made on Tuesday evening, ‘extremely seriously’, local broadcaster RTV Rijnmond says. The police are investigating the threat and declined to give any further details.
It is unclear if there is a connection between the threat and the ban on Feyenoord supporters at Wednesday’s key football tie between the Rotterdam side and Ajax of Amsterdam, the broadcaster says.
In February 2009, a Feyenoord fan was arrested after threatening Aboutaleb. That threat followed his decision to try to make hooligans pay for damage caused during football-related riots a few days earlier.
