Film industry to get extra government money
The Dutch film industry is to receive an injection of public money to encourage producers to shoot their films in the Netherlands.
Culture minister Jet Bussemaker told parliament in a written statement on Friday she will make an extra €20m available, probably in the form of a cash rebate.
Cash rebates are paid to production companies directly by the state, usually as a percentage of the company’s qualified expenses.
The new incentive comes at the urging of the D66 liberal democrats during the budget negotiations in September.
D66 want producers to make their films in the Netherlands rather than in other European countries where government incentives are higher.
Film production stimulates economic activity and job creation.
