Entrepreneurial climate in the Netherlands improves a little: World Bank
The Netherlands has taken some steps which make it easier for entrepreneurs to do business in the country, according to a new report by the World Bank published on Tuesday.
The report ‘Doing Business 2014’ looks at the world’s economies and how easy it is to operate in them depending on 10 factors such as bureaucracy, taxation, bankruptcy rules and cross-border trading.
The Netherlands has climbed from 31st to 28th place in the ranking, which is led by Singapore.
The rise in the Dutch position stems from the abolition of the minimum capital requirement for starting a limited company (bv) and increased transparency and less bureaucracy in property transactions.
However, ‘the Netherlands has weakened its secured transactions system’ by granting priority outside bankruptcy to tax claims over secured creditors’ claims, the report states.
