Amsterdam winds up Gay Pride pickpocketing fast track trials

Amsterdam district court on Monday jailed six more people arrested for pickpocketing offences during the Gay Pride celebrations at the beginning of this month.

The six were jailed for periods of up to 10 weeks. A seventh defendant was found not guilty.

In total, 26 people were sentenced to between three weeks and five months in jail following fast track court appearances for pickpocketing during Gay Pride. Almost all were Romanian nationals working in groups, news agency ANP said.

At least 340 people were the victims of pickpockets during the event, losing phones, cash and wallets. In total, 46 people were arrested, all but three of whom were Romanian nationals.
