Belgium will extradite 17-year-old main suspect in Eindhoven attack
The main Belgian suspect in the Eindhoven security camera attack will be extradited to the Netherlands to face trial, the Belgian courts ruled on Tuesday.
There had been doubts about whether Brent L, who is 17, would be sent to the Netherlands. The ruling means four youngsters will now appear in court in connection with the apparently unprovoked attack on a 22-year-old man in early January.
In April, the Dutch prosecution department ruled four of the eight young men, arrested after video footage of their attack was broadcast on television, will not face charges.
The arrests and the circulation of the video, featuring the gang of eight marching down the street on ‘a war footing’, led to a heated debate in the Dutch media about the ‘naming and shaming’ of suspects.
